The Battle of Bosworth Field took place near Market Bosworth in Leicestershire, England, on 22 August 1485. It was the decisive clash of the Wars of the Roses, a series of conflicts between the houses of Lancaster and York for control of the English crown. Henry Tudor, leading Lancastrian forces with support from exiled nobles, confronted King Richard III's Yorkist army. During the fighting, Richard was killed after key allies, notably Sir William Stanley's forces, sided with Henry. Richard III became the last English king to die in battle. Henry Tudor then took the throne as Henry VII, founding the Tudor dynasty, though scattered Yorkist risings continued until the Battle of Stoke Field in 1487.
